Movement and Creative Drama for Children.
Lowndes, Betty
The relationships among improvisational movement, creative drama, "movement thinking," and motivation for learning in children are explored in this book. Chapters deal with (1) the meaning of movement and drama, (2) a clarification of the teacher's role and the capabilities of children, (3) sensory awareness activities, (4) body awareness--e.g., breathing exercises and relaxation, (5) locomotion--walking, running, twirling, rolling, and jumping, (6) creative movement, (7) mime--e.g., facial expressions and partner work, and (8) "verbal drama" improvisations, including the use of masks and puppets. A brief bibliography of sources in language, movement, drama, puppets, art, design, and education is included. (JM)
