This monograph, interdisciplinary in scope, is a narrative and photographic account of some seventeen facilities existing for child care in Europe. It presents prototype plans, diagrams and pictures of playrooms and playgrounds in day nurseries, nursery schools, playgrounds, and recreation centers in London, England; Copenhagen, Denmark; Stockholm and Uppsala, Sweden; and Zurich, Switzerland. The section titled "Conclusions and Recommendations" summarizes what the author learned about facilities for the young child while he was on the study tour. Thirteen of the recommendations are general in nature, 25 pertain to indoor play areas, and 15 pertain to outdoor play areas. (WY)
