The "cluster college arrangement" is discussed in this model for reorganization of the College of DuPage. The basic idea is to provide, within the framework of the parent institution, several educational communities small enough to enable students and faculty members to work closely toward reasonable educational goals. The following philosophical needs are identified: identity, social and academic interaction, closer faculty-student contact, and greater involvement. An operational framework is developed, offering guidelines for size and number of colleges, individual college identification, decentralized and centralized college services, small college administration, faculty selection, student selection, and institutional governance.
