American Science Manpower 1968. A Report of the National Register of Scientific and Technical Personnel.

This report, based on the questionnaire returns of 298,000 scientists in the 1968 National Register of Scientific and Technical Personnel, presents data on the supply, utilization, and characteristics of the nation's scientific manpower resources. The report is organized in three parts: Part I presents some graphic highlights of the general characteristics of scientists, including specialization by scientific field, primary work activity, highest degree held, employment status, type of employer, years of experience, geographic location, and median annual salaries. Part II consists of more specific tabulations of the major characteristics of scientists mentioned in Part I plus data on the foreign language knowledge of scientists, scientists receiving federal support, and women scientists. Part III contains (1) detailed statistical tables, (2) technical notes, (3) criteria for inclusion in the National Register, (4) reproduction of 1968 questionnaire and Specialties List, and (5) Language Family List used by the National Register in 1968.
