New Curriculum Perspectives for Junior High School Science.
Hurd, Paul DeHart
This book examines questions about the purposes and subject matter of the conventional junior high school science curriculum and presents more than twenty experimental instructional practices designed to improve science teaching at this level. The author recognizes the controversies surrounding organizational proposals for junior high school and the range of diversities in its student population. These problems are examined in combination with changes of emphasis in the goals of education and their meaning for an age of science. Curriculum models representing innovative practices illustrate how some schools are meeting changing conditions. An extensive bibliography makes it possible for the serious reader to explore major issues in greater depth. (Author/PR)
