This two-cassette recording of a session of the 1969 meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science contains five presentations related to the association's report on preservice science education of elementary school teachers. The papers describe the origins of the report and provide an overview of its contents (Herron); question some of the guidelines and some of the assumptions underlying specification of teacher education requirements (Brown); predict trends in teacher education, (performance specified curricula, instructional alternatives, and curricula decisions shared by more groups than professional teacher educators) (Cooper); describe a systems model used for designing and evaluating teacher education programs (Yee); and urge translation of ideas and disputes into laboratory and field research questions (Rowe). The questions and discussions that followed each paper and concluded the session are included. (AL)
