A Case Study of the Role of a Superintendent of Schools in District-Wide Curriculum Development in Modern Mathematics and Science Education and an Evaluation of Resulting Educational Outcomes.

Reported are the results of a study designed to (1) conceptualize the role of a superintendent, (2) describe the author's experience in developing curriculum as a superintendent, (3) evaluate pupil progress in mathematics and science by comparing standardized test scores over a four-year period, and (4) evaluate teacher professional growth by self evaluation techniques. It was concluded that the students had either maintained or increased their academic proficiency, and that the employment of a curriculum specialist in science and mathematics education played a vital role in the success of the program.
