Children and Parents: Together in the World. 1970 White House Conference on Children, Report of Forum 15. (Working Copy).
Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, Washington, DC.
The low priority according to children and families in our way of life is reflected in policies and actions at national, state, and local levels. We like to think of America as a child-oriented society but, in fact, our priorities lie more in the pursuit of affluence, and the worship of material things and technology. A broken television set or a broken computer may provoke more indignation and more action than a broken family or a broken child. New national goals should be pursued by many different parts of our society to enhance the quality of life for America's children. Adult-child interaction must be increased on all levels. To benefit children and families, specific recommendations are presented which can be undertaken by private industry and small businesses, the mass media, the community, schools, federal, state and local governments, and individual families.
