English Language Arts Framework: Kindergarten Through Grade 12.
Utah State Board of Education, Salt Lake City.
Based on the premise that a change in teacher role is the primary means of upgrading the learning in schools, this curriculum guide focuses on the teacher's understanding of each student as learner rather than on the material to be learned. Some of the many topics explored are (1) student development of self-discipline and personal freedom; (2) the question of homogeneous or heterogeneous grouping; (3) teaching strategies for creative learning and thinking with lists of suggested films and readings; (4) the relevance of contemporary language teaching; (5) an approach to learning through sensory perception; (6) a psychedelic poetry unit; (7) procedures for evaluation of student composition; and (8) behavioral objectives, charted from kindergarten through grade 12. Appendices contain a minimal usage program in standard spoken English, and a basic bibliography on censorship. (JMC)
