A number of critical aspects of educational information system design are discussed. The success of any information system depends largely upon several key decisions that must be made early in the preliminary design phase. The paper attempts to (1) indicate the nature and some of the major implications of these key decisions and (2) provide a framework for rational decision making. (Author)
