Project SCATE: An Exploratory Program for the Improvement of Undergraduate Curriculum and Instruction. Final Report.
This report contains an account and analysis of the SCATE (Student Course and Teacher Evaluation) Program which was designed to initiate and assess educational evaluation programs at Bowdoin College, Florida Presbyterian College, Colby Junior College, Rosary College, Central State University, Bethel College, University of Redlands, University of Houston, University of Alabama, and Northeastern University. The goals for SCATE included fostering any educational effort whose end was to make students more involved in their school, their academic life, and their education in general. Section 1 of this report gives an overall picture of what happened. Section 2 reports on the experiences of each school, and includes a summary of the program, an account of how it was conceived and how it was actually implemented, criticism of the program and what can be learned from it. Section 3 discusses the problems and things to be learned from the SCATE schools and from the evaluation procedure. Section 4 presents a paper discussing how computers are used in evaluations and future ways in which they might be used. Section 5 presents a proposal for a national data processing center.
