This handbook is designed to help classroom teachers to develop outdoor education programs. Discussed are the place of outdoor education in the curriculum, and the provision and use of outdoor areas. The section "What to Do and What to Look For" gives many suggestions for student activities uder the headings "Land or Terrestrial Communities,""Aquatic Communities,""Costal Communities,""Projects of Longer Duration," and "Measurement Experiences." Illustrated instructions are given for constructing simple equipment. Appended are guidelines for the establishment of outdoor programs, and a statement of philosophy of education for Oregon schools.
