This survey of state certification practices and requirements for modern foreign languages reports on standard credit and hour requirements for elementary, secondary, supervisory, and coordinator certification. It also discusses the "approved program" option, proficiency testing, foreign language in the elementary school (FLES), reciprocal certification, licensing for differentiated staffing, and state and municipality relationships.
