Family Living, Including Sex Education. End of the Year Report.
Forlano, George; And Others
This is an evaluation of a new curriculum which sought to: (1) help children grow in the aspects of wholesome living, (2) develop appreciation for the family, (3) help children develop ideals, standards, and attitudes helpful in the development of interpersonal skills, (4) develop a wholesome attitude toward sexuality, and (5) work with parents. During the 1967 to 1968 school year, a total of 31,000 pupils in grades prekindergarten through twelve, in the New York City school system, were involved in the program. Questionnaires were completed by all district superintendents, and coordinators and by a random sample of principals and teacher. Pupil attitudes were assessed by: (1) a pupil attitude scale for grades 6 through 12, (2) a teacher scale for grades 6 through 12, and (3) a teach scale for grades K through 5. Conclusions reveal that the curriculum has been well accepted and supported by all involved individuals. (author/EK)
