A Clinical Approach to Training the Educable Mentally Retarded: A Handbook.
Jolles, Isaac; Southwick, Selma I.
The use of methods found effective with the brain injured with educable mentally handicapped children is discussed; the clinical approach to teaching and the psychology of the educable are explained; and educational implications are outlined. The following are then considered: sensory deficiencies and intensified stimulation; training perception; training language and conceptional thinking; and developing attention and motivation. Methods for teaching arithmetic, reading, and handwriting to the educable are detailed; and the clinical approach is described in action. (JD)
