As part of an interstate certification project, this bulletin summarizes information gathered by questionnaire from the 50 states and the District of Columbia on teacher certification policies and practices. Resumes of state education department responses cover legal and policy structure, approval of teacher education programs for certification (related specifically to the approved program approach in which any graduate of a state-approved institution is granted a certificate provided he has that institute's recommendation as a teacher), criteria for program approval, certification procedures, and statistical data.
