Reported are results of investigations conducted over a five-year period in the field of engineering education at undergraduate, master's, and doctor's degree levels in 179 institutions in the United States. Future technological needs, basic components of undergraduate engineering education, and trends and needs in advanced engineering programs are discussed. These discussions were based on the findings obtained from questionnaires sent to every engineering institution in the United States. Extensive statistical data are included to support the conclusions of the study, and directions for future development in engineering education at all levels are given. (GR)
