Designed primarily for high school students who, for cultural or psychological reasons, find the traditional curriculum irrelevant, this unit deals with the problems of individual identity and group membership. Short readings taken from various periods and from various aspects of American society are used to set up discussions of racial, religious, and ethnic groups in America, with special emphasis on the student's own sense of himself.
