This report is a discussion of British Columbia 10th-grade English "resource courses" designed to allow some freedom to teachers in the selection of texts and other instructional materials. Items discussed are the concept of the resource course and its application to English literature, the evaluation of achievement in literature, Bloom's "Taxonomy of Educational Objectives," the results of a survey of teachers' objectives for 10th-grade English literature and language, the application of generally-stated objectives to course content, suggestions for behaviorally-stated objectives, the curricular structure underlying the teaching of the English language, and the problems of evaluating student achievement in English. Authors of the discussions are Fred Bowers, Maurice Gibbons, Justus Havelaar, H. Robert Kendrick, Geoffrey P. Mason, and Kevin Watt. Appendices contain samples of the questionnaires used to determine teacher objectives, questions for measuring student achievement, taxonomies of objectives in the teaching of English language, and a list of texts available to teachers in English 10.
