A Proposed Program of Supervision of Instruction in Public Junior Colleges.
This is the full text of the dissertation previously summarized in ED 014 278. Questionnaire responses from 37 junior colleges were used as a basis for analyzing current practices in supervision of instruction and for developing a proposed program for such supervision. While differences in degree of supervision were found there were few significant differences among institutions concerning materials used in supervision, administrative organization, or administrator-faculty ratios. A strong relationship was noted between actual practice and the ideal practice as reported by the respondents. The findings indicate a need for further study in (1) the role of division chairmen, (2) the method of selecting faculty/administration committees, (3) in-service education programs, and (4) methods of evaluation of instruction. In his proposed program for supervision of instruction, the author gives attention to the rationale for such a program, guidelines, board policy statements, organizational charts, faculty/administration committees, in-service education, orientation of new faculty, faculty observation and research, technical aids to instruction, classroom observation, and evaluation of instruction.
