This handbook was prepared to assist administrators and instructors of teacher-aide personnel to deal with the expanding recruitment, training, and utilization of paraprofessionals in education. Some of the objectives of the handbook are (1) to define the role of teacher-aide, (2) to establish guidelines for their preservice and inservice training, (3) to help teachers gain an understanding of their roles as leaders, (4) to identify methods of training, (5) to establish criteria for a job description of various kinds of aides, and (6) to evaluate criteria in certifying aides.
