A STUDY OF THE EXPENSE OF STUDENT PERSONNEL SERVICES IN SELECTED CALIFORNIA PUBLIC JUNIOR COLLEGES.
SCHEIDT, OMAR HENRY
THIS STUDY OF THREE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC JUNIOR COLLEGES, WITH 1,500 TO 4,500 STUDENTS, IDENTIFIED THE PER STUDENT COST OF EACH OF 86 STUDENT PERSONNEL SERVICES, DETERMINED THE TOTAL COST OF SUCH SERVICES, AND DEVELOPED A PROCEDURE FOR DETERMINING THE COSTS. GATHERED BY INTERVIEWS AND STUDY OF RECORDS, DATA WERE COMPILED AND ANALYZED BY FOUR 1620 FORTRAN PROGRAMS. STUDENT PERSONNEL SERVICES AT EACH COLLEGE REQUIRED ABOUT 10 PERCENT OF THE OPERATIONAL BUDGET, THOUGH THE PER STUDENT COSTS RANGED FROM $56 TO $66. COUNSELING SERVICES USED APPROXIMATELY ONE-THIRD OF THE STUDENT-DIRECTED ACTIVITIES. THE REPORT PROVIDES GUIDELINES FOR USE IN SIMILAR RESEARCH, AND THE PROCEDURES ARE FLEXIBLE ENOUGH FOR USE IN OTHER COLLEGES. IT RELATES FINANCIAL INPUT TO STUDENT SERVICE AND UTILITY, TO DETERMINE WHETHER CHANGES SHOULD BE MADE IN HUMAN AND/OR FINANCIAL RESOURCES. THIS ED.D. DISSERTATION IS AVAILABLE AS DOCUMENT NO. 66-11,919 FOR $3.65 (MICROFILM) OR $12.85 (XEROGRAPHIC COPY) FROM UNIVERSITY MICROFILMS, INC., P.O. BOX 1346, ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN 48106. (HH)
