A STUDY OF PRIVATE TWO-YEAR COLLEGE FUND RAISING PROGRAMS.
GALLAGHER, SISTER M. EYMARD
IN A STUDY OF EDUCATIONAL FUND RAISING PRACTICES AT PRIVATE 2-YEAR COLLEGES, A 66-PERCENT RETURN WAS RECEIVED FROM QUESTIONNAIRES SENT TO 174 COLLEGES. OF THE RESPONDENTS, 82 PERCENT HAD FUND RAISING PROGRAMS. THE AUTHOR FOUND THAT (1) PRIVATE 2-YEAR COLLEGES WERE LESS EFFECTIVE IN FUND RAISING THAN SENIOR INSTITUTIONS, (2) PRIVATE 2-YEAR COLLEGES WERE NOT SUFFICIENTLY WELL ORGANIZED FOR FUND SOLICITATION, WITH INADEQUATE STAFF AND BUDGET FOR SUCH PURPOSES, (3) MOST PRIVATE 2-YEAR COLLEGES, NOT HAVING WELL DEFINED LONG RANGE PLANS, HAD NOT FORMULATED FUND RAISING AIMS AND OBJECTIVES, AND (4) COLLEGES WITH FUND OFFICERS WERE MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN THOSE WITHOUT SUCH PERSONNEL. THE AUTHOR RECOMMENDED (1) INCLUSION IN FUND RAISING PROGRAMS OF A DIRECTOR OF ADVANCEMENT, A FUND RAISING OFFICER, A PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, AND AN ALUMNI OFFICER, AND (2) DEVELOPMENT OF LONG RANGE PLANS WITH COOPERATION OF TRUSTEES, ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY. THIS ED.D. DISSERTATION IS AVAILABLE AS DOCUMENT NO. 65-2275, FOR $3.00 (MICROFILM) OR $8.20 (XEROGRAPHIC COPY) FROM UNIVERSITY MICROFILMS, INC., P.O. BOX 1346, ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN 48106. (WO)
