SHAW, FREDERICK
THIS ARTICLE DISCUSSES THE SOCIAL ORIGINS OF CURRENT PROBLEMS IN URBAN EDUCATION. THE ARTICLE ALSO EXAMINES OTHER PROJECTS LIKE NEW YORK CITY'S GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING PROGRAMS FOR DISADVANTAGED YOUTH, CLASSES FOR SPANISH-SPEAKING STUDENTS, THE NEW YORK CITY "SPECIAL SERVICE" SCHOOLS (WHICH INCLUDE ALL HIGHER HORIZON SCHOOLS), AND VARIOUS PROGRAMS TO PREPARE TEACHERS OF DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS.
