GUIDELINES FOR ART INSTRUCTION THROUGH TELEVISION FOR THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

COMPREHENSIVE EXPLANATIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR DEVELOPING ART INSTRUCTION THROUGH TELEVISION ARE GIVEN. METHODS ARE DISCUSSED FOR INCREASING STUDENT PERCEPTION AND FOR ACHIEVING STUDENT INVOLVEMENT WITH AESTHETIC PROBLEMS. THE FOUR MAIN CENTERS AROUND WHICH PROGRAMS SHOULD BE ORGANIZED ARE DEFINED AS--SUBJECT, ART MEDIUM, ART FORM, AND CULTURAL IDIOM. EXAMPLES OF SCRIPTS FOR TWO AGE LEVELS, LOWER ELEMENTARY AND UPPER ELEMENTARY, DEMONSTRATE HOW TO LEAD THE STUDENT TO CREATE AND RESPOND TO ART. MEANS FOR INSURING SERIES CONTINUITY AND FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITIES ARE DETAILED. TECHNICAL ASPECTS ARE DISCUSSED. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS A REPRINT ON TYPES OF ART CRITICISMS AND AN ANALYSIS OF THEM AS AN AID TO TEACHERS IN MAKING EVALUATIONS.
