INTENDED FOR TEACHERS AND SUPERVISORS OF BRAIN INJURED CHILDREN, THE HANDBOOK DESCRIBES THE EDUCATIONAL PRACTICES AND THE THEORETICAL BASES FOR THE PROGRAM IN NEW YORK CITY. AFTER A DESCRIPTION OF EIGHT CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES OF THE DISORGANIZATION COMMON TO ALL BRAIN INJURED CHILDREN, THERE IS A DISCUSSION OF SCREENING AND PLACEMENT PROCEDURES INCLUDING IDENTIFICATION, CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION, AND REFERRAL. A SECTION ON PROGRAM ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION CONSIDERS SUCH MATTERS AS CLASS SIZE, LOCATION, MATERIALS, HOURS, TRANSPORTATION, EMERGENCY PROCEDURES, VISITORS, CLASSROOM ROUTINES, TEACHER ATTIRE, SCHEDULING, PLANNING, AND ARTICULATION. SPECIAL ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO THE PARENT-SCHOOL RELATIONSHIP AND THE CHILD'S PARTICIPATION IN OUT-OF-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES. CURRICULUM IMPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING ARE CONSIDERED--LANGUAGE ARTS, PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, SOCIAL STUDIES, MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE, MUSIC, AND ART. AN APPENDIX PRESENTS SPECIFIC SUGGESTIONS ON THE ROLE OF THE TEAM TEACHER IN SPECIAL CLASSES, ROUTINES AND PROCEDURES, TEACHING AIDS, FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT, AND DAILY SCHEDULES. A GLOSSARY DEFINES 18 COMMONLY USED TERMS, AND THE BIBLIOGRAPHY LISTS 27 REFERENCES.
