MAN IN PERSPECTIVE.
VERMILYE, DYCKMAN W., ED.
THIS IS A COLLECTION OF FOUR SPEECHES PREPARED FOR DELIVERY AT THE ANNUAL CONVENTION OF THE AMERICAN PERSONNEL AND GUIDANCE ASSOCIATION. BIOLOGIST N.J. BERRILL, WHO DISCUSSES "HUMAN POTENTIAL," ACCENTUATES THE UNIQUENESS OF MAN, ASSERTING THAT PERSONALITY IS AN ESSENTIAL QUALITY IN HUMAN EVOLUTION AND MUST BE DEVELOPED. JACOB BRONOWSKI EXPLORES "THE DISCOVERY OF SELF" AND CALLS ON COUNSELORS TO RECOGNIZE WAYS IN WHICH THEY ARE AND ARE NOT EDUCATING THE CHILD FOR THE WORLD IN WHICH HE WILL LIVE. E.G. WILLIAMSON, IN "THE EMERGING COUNSELOR," PROVIDES PERSPECTIVE ON WHAT THE COUNSELOR IS, SHOULD BE, AND CAN BE. IN "PERSONALITY THEORY REVISITED AND RE-EVALUATED," THE OBJECT OF CALVIN HALL'S PERSPECTIVE IS THE CREATIVITY AND IMAGINATION OF MAN IN THE MANIPULATION OF SYMBOLS THAT WE CALL THEORIES OF PERSONALITY. THESE SPEECHES WERE DELIVERED AT THE 1964 SAN FRANCISCO, AND 1965 MINNEAPOLIS, AMERICAN PERSONNEL AND GUIDANCE CONVENTIONS. COPIES OF THIS DOCUMENT ARE AVAILABLE FROM PUBLICATION SALES, AMERICAN PERSONNEL AND GUIDANCE ASSOCIATION, 1605 NEW HAMPSHIRE AVE., N.W., WASHINGTON, D.C. 20009 FOR $2.50 PER COPY. (PH)
