THIS TEXT WAS WRITTEN FOR THE USE OF THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER OF JAPANESE. IT IS TO BE USED IN THE SECOND SEMESTER OF JAPANESE LANGUAGE STUDY AND FOLLOWS THE AUDIO-LINGUAL ORIENTATION OF VOLUME I. THE MAIN GOAL OF BOTH VOLUMES IS "TO ELEVATE THE PUPIL'S MOTIVATION AND TO CULTIVATE PROPER PRONUNCIATION HABITS." THE NEW ITEMS IN VOLUME II INCLUDE 53 VOCABULARY ITEMS, 11 STRUCTURAL POINTS, FIVE USEFUL EXPRESSIONS, FIVE SONGS, AND 12 GAMES. THERE ARE FIVE UNITS IN THIS TEXT (EACH WITH TWO REGULAR LESSONS AND ONE REVIEW) AND AN APPENDED "SPECIAL ACTIVITIES" SECTION RELATED TO TWO JAPANESE FESTIVALS. EACH LESSON IS ORGANIZED INTO--(1) OBJECTIVES (OUTLINING FOR THE TEACHER THE VOCABULARY AND STRUCTURES TO BE COVERED), (2) EXPRESSIONS (A VERY SHORT "DIALOG" OF FOUR SENTENCES), (3) DRILLS (REPETITION, SIMPLE SUBSTITUTION, YES OR NO QUESTIONS, CHAIN DRILLS), (4) SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES (GAMES, SONGS, ART WORK, STORIES TO BE READ ALOUD), AND (5) NOTES (DIRECTED TO THE TEACHER AND CONCERNING STRUCTURE, USAGE, CULTURAL POINTS, AND PRONUNCIATION). VOCABULARY AND STRUCTURES USED IN THE DIALOG ARE INCLUDED IN THE DRILLS AND SPECIAL ACTIVITIES. TAPE RECORDINGS HAVE BEEN PREPARED OF THE SONGS AND THE DIALOGS.
