DELIBERATIONS BEGUN AT A CONVENTION IN 1966 AND REFINED AT THE 1967 "SCHOLAR'S SEMINAR" IN LOUISVILLE, BOTH SPONSORED BY THE CONFERENCE ON COLLEGE COMPOSITION AND COMMUNICATION, RESULTED IN THIS PUBLISHED "STATEMENT" WHICH URGES RESEARCH AND STUDY OF THE "DEEPER ASPECTS OF COMPOSING." THE REPORT BRIEFLY PRESENTS SEVERAL ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES TO THE TEACHING OF COMPOSITION AND DISCUSSES SOME FUNDAMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE SHAPING OF AN EFFECTIVE COURSE.
