A STUDY OF THE ADMINISTRATORS OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN THE PUBLIC JUNIOR COLLEGES OF THE UNITED STATES.
GATES, CLAUDE L., JR.
A QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY OF 85 ADMINISTRATORS OF JUNIOR COLLEGE TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS BROUGHT 66 RETURNS, WHICH WERE TABULATED, ANALYZED, AND REPORTED. THE TYPICAL ADMINISTRATOR (1) WAS 48 YEARS OLD, MALE, MARRIED, AND WHITE, (2) HAD AN ACADEMIC CERTIFICATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL, A COLLEGE MAJOR IN INDUSTRIAL ARTS OR INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION, AND A MASTER'S DEGREE IN EDUCATION, THOUGH HE HAD NOT HAD A COURSE IN THE JUNIOR COLLEGE, AND (3) HAD SECONDARY SCHOOL EXPERIENCE PLUS EXPERIENCE OUT OF EDUCATION. HIS DUTIES INCLUDED THE ENTIRE RANGE OF EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATION. A BROAD RANGE OF CURRICULUMS WAS OFFERED AT MOST COLLEGES IN THE STUDY, WITH MOST AT THE SEMIPROFESSIONAL LEVEL, RATHER THAN TRADE OR TRANSFER LEVELS. NO STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIP WAS FOUND BETWEEN EITHER THE RIGOR OR SCOPE OF A PROGRAM AND THE ADMINISTRATOR'S BACKGROUND OR CHARACTERISTICS. THIS ED.D. DISSERTATION IS AVAILABLE AS DOCUMENT NO. 65-314, FOR $2.75 (MICROFILM) OR $7.60 (XEROGRAPHIC COPY) FROM UNIVERSITY MICROFILMS, INC., 313 NORTH FIRST STREET, ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN 48107. (WO)
