A SURVEY OF COMMUNITY SERVICES IN CALIFORNIA JUNIOR COLLEGE DISTRICTS, 1966-67.

A 27-ITEM QUESTIONNAIRE WAS SENT TO JUNIOR COLLEGES IN FIVE TYPES OF DISTRICTS TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF THEIR COMMUNITY SERVICES. SIXTY USABLE RESPONSES WERE RECEIVED. THE TYPES OF DISTRICT WERE 1-CAMPUS INDEPENDENT, MULTI-CAMPUS INDEPENDENT, JOINT JUNIOR COLLEGE, SINGLE-CAMPUS UNIFIED, AND MULTI-CAMPUS UNIFIED. DATA FROM THE SURVEY INCLUDED (1) CAMPUS ENROLLMENT AND COMMUNITY POPULATION FIGURES, (2) NUMBER OF PERSONNEL ADMINISTERING COMMUNITY SERVICES, (3) ANY ANTICIPATED CHANGES IN PERSONNEL, (4) COMMUNITY TAX RATE, (5) YEARLY INCOME FOR SERVICES, (6) PERCENTAGE OF COMMUNITY SERVICES BUDGET USED FOR CIVIC CENTER EXPENDITURES, FOR COMMUNITY EDUCATIONAL SERVICES, FOR RECREATION PROGRAMS, AND FOR "OTHER" SERVICES, (7) SOURCES OF INCOME BESIDES COMMUNITY SERVICE TAX LEVIES, SUCH AS STUDENT BODY FUNDS AND GENERAL FUNDS, (8) THE NUMBER OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND OF THE GENERAL POPULATION USING CAMPUS FACILITIES, (9) THE NUMBER OF NON-CREDIT, EDUCATIONAL COURSES OFFERED AND THEIR ESTIMATED ATTENDANCE, (10) THE NUMBER OF COMMUNITY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT COURSES OFFERED AND THEIR ATTENDANCE, (11) PUBLIC COUNSELING AND CONSULTATIVE SERVICES OFFERED, (12) AVAILABILITY OF RADIO-TV SERVICES FOR THE COMMUNITY, (13) EXISTENCE OF FACULTY AND STUDENT PROGRAMS FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS, (14) THE RANK EMPHASIS FOR COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, (15) TOTAL NUMBER OF EVENTS OFFERED AND THEIR ATTENDANCE, AND (16) THE MOST IMPORTANT FUTURE PLANS OR INNOVATIONS.
