AUTOMATED PLANT SAVES $30,000.
AN AUTOMATED CENTRAL BUILDING CONTROL SYSTEM IS BEING INSTALLED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH PRIMARILY TO CONTROL HEATING IN 21 BUILDINGS. AN OPERATOR CAN SELECT A PARTICULAR SYSTEM FOR SURVEILLANCE OR ADJUSTMENT, AND AUTOMATICALLY A LARGE SCALE SCHEMATIC OF THE SYSTEM IS DISPLAYED ON A SCREEN AND ALL CONTROL CIRCUITS ARE SWITCHED TO THE SYSTEM UNDER CONSIDERATION. THE NEW SYSTEM WILL ACCOMMODATE ANTICIPATED NEW BUILDINGS AND WILL PAY FOR ITSELF WITHIN 20 MONTHS BECAUSE OF INCREASED POWER EFFICIENCY AND REDUCED PERSONNEL. THIS ARTICLE APPEARED IN THE APRIL, 1966, ISSUE OF COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY BUSINESS. COPIES MAY BE OBTAINED BY WRITING HAROLD HERMAN, EDITOR, COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY BUSINESS, 1050 MERCHANDISE MART, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS 60654. (JT)
