THE PURPOSE OF THE WORKSHOP IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GUIDANCE WAS TWOFOLD--(1) TO SHOW HOW GUIDANCE PROCEDURES AND TECHNIQUES CENTER ABOUT AND INVOLVE THE CHILD AS HE ADAPTS TO A NEW TYPE OF SCHOOL SETTING AND LEARNING PROCESS, AND (2) TO CREATE AN AWARENESS OF THE NEED FOR ALL AREAS OF COUNSELING AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LEVEL. OF THE ELEVEN PAPERS DELIVERED, FOUR DEAL WITH PRACTICES (INCLUDES NINE TABLES), ISSUES, CONSULTATION WITH PARENTS, AND CREATIVE APPROACHES IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GUIDANCE AND RELATE SPECIFICALLY TO CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THE OTHER SEVEN PAPERS DEAL WITH VARIOUS ASPECTS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GUIDANCE IN GENERAL--(1) DEVELOPMENT AND TRENDS, (2) THE TEACHER'S ROLE IN VOCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, (3) THE PLACE OF COUNSELING, (4) THE PURPOSE AND USE OF STANDARDIZED TESTS, (5) ARTICULATION (THE PROCESS OF LINKING BETWEEN DIFFERENT EDUCATIONAL LEVELS), (6) TECHNIQUES FOR THE CLASSROOM TEACHERS, AND (7) MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING. ALL OF THE PAPERS ARE BASED ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT A CHILD WILL IMPROVE HIS ABILITY TO LEARN IN DIRECT PROPORTION TO THE AMOUNT OF CAPABLE GUIDANCE HE RECEIVES. THESE PAPERS WERE DELIVERED AT THE WORKSHOP IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GUIDANCE (WASHINGTON, D.C. JUNE 18-23, 1967).
