THIS PROPOSAL IS FOR A KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM TO REINFORCE THE SOCIAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, AND COGNITIVE GAINS ACHIEVED BY ABOUT 125 RACIALLY INTEGRATED PROJECT HEADSTART GRADUATES. FUNDED UNDER TITLE VI OF THE 1964 CIVIL RIGHTS ACT, THE PROGRAM WILL BE STAFFED BY FIVE CLASSROOM TEACHERS, ONE CONSULTING TEACHER, ONE LANGUAGE SPECIALIST, ONE GUIDANCE CONSULTANT AND PSYCHOLOGIST (EQUIVALENT OF ONE-HALF EACH), FIVE TEACHER AIDES, FIVE VOLUNTEERS, ONE PART-TIME NURSE, AND ONE SECRETARY. THERE WILL BE ONE ADULT FOR EVERY SIX PUPILS. TO ENCOURAGE THE PARTICIPATION OF PARENTS AND THE COMMUNITY, THE PROGRAM WILL PROVIDE HOME VISITS AND GROUP MEETINGS WITH BOTH MOTHERS AND FATHERS. SINCE PUPILS WILL BE ENROLLED FROM ALL PARTS OF THE CITY, A BUSING PROGRAM WILL BE ESTABLISHED. THE PROPOSAL ALSO DESCRIBES A PRESERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM FOR THE STAFF AND AN EXISTING "FOLLOW THROUGH" PROGRAM. (LB)
