THREE ASPECTS OF POLICY PLANNING FOR TECHNICAL INFORMATION IN INDUSTRY ARE DISCUSSED IN THIS PAPER. THE FIRST ASPECT IS THE MANAGEMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN INDUSTRY, WHICH NEEDS A PROPERLY ORIENTED NATIONAL ENVIRONMENT THAT ENCOURAGES INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION IN ORDER TO FLOURISH. THE SECOND ASPECT, INFORMATION TRANSFER IN INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, REPORTS STUDIES OF HOW SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS IN INDUSTRY OBTAIN THE INFORMATION THEY NEED TO DO THEIR JOB. IN GENERAL, ENGINEERS, AND DOCUMENTALISTS, PLACE HEAVY RELIANCE UPON INFORMAL, ORAL, INTERNAL SOURCES OF INFORMATION. THE LAST ASPECT COVERS THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DOCUMENTALIST IN INDUSTRY, INCLUDING THE ALLOCATION OF INFORMATION SOURCES AND SERVICES TO MEET THE USER'S REAL OR IMAGINED NEEDS, AS WELL AS CERTAIN PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF OPERATING DOCUMENTATION OR INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN INDUSTRY.
