THIS REPROT DESCRIBES THE DESIGN OF A NEW SPEECH AND HEARING CENTER AND ITS INTEGRATION INTO THE OVERALL ARCHITECTURAL SCHEME OF THE CAMPUS. THE CIRCULAR SHAPE WAS SELECTED TO COMPLEMENT THE SURROUNDING STRUCTURES AND COMPENSATE FOR DIFFERENCES IN SITE, WHILE PROVIDING THE ACOUSTICAL ADVANTAGES OF NON-PARALLEL WALLS, AND FACILITATING TRAFFIC FLOW. NOISE FACTORS WERE IMPORTANT AND CONSIDERATIONS INCLUDE--(1) SOUND TREATING WALLS AND CEILINGS, (2) USING CARPETING, (3) PROVIDING STRUCTURAL ISOLATION AT TESTING ROOMS, (4) LOCATING ROOMS, (5) USING EXISTING SITE FEATURES, (6) DESIGNING DOOR CHARACTERISTICS, AND (7) CONTROLLING ROOM VENTALATION. SPACES INCLUDED IN THE DESIGN ARE--(1) HEARING AND SPEECH THERAPY, (2) GRADUATE LECTURE, (3) FILMING AND EDITING, (4) STATISTICAL LABORATORY, (5) PHONOGRAPH RECORD LIBRARY AND WORKSHOP, (6) WAITING ROOM, (7) INTERVIEWING AREA, (8) TESTING ROOMS, (9) STAFF LOUNGE, (10) OFFICE SUPPLY AND WORK ROOM, AND (11) CENTRAL OPEN COURT.
