THE 1965-66 EVALUATION OF AN ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION ACT, TITLE I PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES INTENSIVE THERAPY FOR PRESCHOOL CHILDREN WITH SEVERE LANGUAGE HANDICAPS IS PRESENTED IN THIS REPORT. THERE IS A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE SPEECH TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS OF THE PROGRESS OF EACH OF THE TEN PARTICIPATING PUPILS. IN ADDITION TABULAR DATA IS GIVEN ON THE CHANGE IN THE PUPILS' PRETREATMENT BEHAVIOR CHARACTERISTICS (MOTOR COORDINATION, SOCIALIZATION, RECEPTIVE LANGUAGE, ABILITY TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AND PERFORM TASKS, AND VERBAL COMMUNICATION). THE PROGRAM'S SUCCESS SEEMED TO VARY. THE COST PER CHILD FOR 1 YEAR IS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT $1,250. AMONG THE RECOMMENDATIONS MADE IN THE REPORT IS THE SUGGESTION THAT THE PROGRAM BE CONTINUED WITH THE SAME CHILDREN AND, IF FINANCIALLY POSSIBLE, EXTENDED TO INCLUDE EVEN MORE. (LB)
