LESSON PLANS WERE DEVELOPED FOR THE 1963-64 SCHOOL YEAR UNDER A PILOT PROJECT THROUGH THE COOPERATIVE EFFORTS OF THE CALEXICO BOARD OF TRUSTEES, IMPERIAL COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICE, CALIFORNIA STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, AND THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION. THE PLANS PROVIDED GENERAL SUGGESTIONS AND SUGGESTED DAILY LESSON PLANS FOR 26 WEEKS. THE SPECIAL PILOT PROJECT CLASSES MET AT LEAST ONE-HALF HOUR DAILY AND CLASS ENROLLMENT WAS LIMITED TO 15 PUPILS. THE AUDIO-LINGUAL APPROACH TO LEARNING WAS TO BE USED WITH EMPHASIS ON INCREASING FACILITY IN THE USE OF ORAL ENGLISH. AT THE END OF THE FIRST YEAR, THE MAJORITY OF THE PUPILS HAD LEARNED A BASIC VOCABULARY OF OVER 200 WORDS. (SF)
