THE TRAINING OF WORKERS IN SAFETY AND IN SAFE METHODS OF WORK IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF ACCIDENT PREVENTION. IT IS A MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY TO DO THIS, AND, TO BE EFFECTIVE, MANAGEMENT ITSELF MUST BE CONVINCED OF THE NEED FOR SAFETY TRAINING. IT SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT AS PART OF THE NORMAL TRAINING WHICH ALL ENTRANTS TO INDUSTRY RECEIVE. THE TRAINEE SHOULD BE GIVEN A CLEAR APPRECIATION OF THE DANGERS INHERENT IN ANY MACHINERY, PLANT, OR PROCESS WITH WHICH HE IS CONCERNED, BE REMINDED OF HIS RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS' SAFETY, BE TAUGHT THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPER MAINTENANCE, AND BE MADE AWARE OF THE NEED FOR ALERTNESS TO DEFECTS WHICH MAY BE DANGEROUS.
