THE FIRST CHAPTER DISCUSSES THE ROLE OF THE MEDICAL DIRECTOR OVERSEEING INITIAL INTERVIEWS WITH CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS, MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS, AND PROSTHETIC FITTING. ORTHOPEDIC CONSIDERATIONS, PRESENTED IN CHAPTER TWO, COVER SURGICAL AND NONSURGICAL ASPECTS OF TREATMENT. THE PSYCHOSOCIAL PROBLEMS OF ADJUSTMENT TO AMPUTATION AND PROSTHESIS ARE DESCRIBED IN CHAPTER THREE. THE NEXT TWO CHAPTERS COVER PREPROSTHETIC EVALUATIONS AND THERAPY. PROSTHESIS DESIGN AND FITTING FOR CHILDREN ARE PRESENTED IN CHAPTER SIX, AND TRAINING IN THE USE OF THE PROSTHESIS FOR BOTH UPPER AND LOWER EXTREMITY AMPUTEES IS DESCRIBED IN THE LAST TWO CHAPTERS. PHOTOGRAPHS, CHARTS, AND DIAGRAMS OF SPECIFIC LIMB DEFORMITIES AND PROSTHESIS DEVICES ARE INCLUDED. BOTH CONGENITAL AND TRAUMATIC AMPUTATIONS ARE DISCUSSED. GROWTH PATTERNS OF CHILDREN ARE DISCUSSED IN TERMS OF BOTH NORMAL DEVELOPMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHILD AMPUTEE.
