A MODEL PROJECT FOR UNDERGRADUATE SOCIAL WELFARE EDUCATION.
THE UNDERGRADUATE SOCIAL WELFARE COURSE AT SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY IS DESCRIBED. THE MAJOR IS TAKEN WITHIN THE COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES. A BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE IS AWARDED UPON COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM IS INTERDISCIPLINARY. IT INVOLVES SOCIAL WELFARE COURSES, PSYCHOLOGY, POLITICAL SCIENCE, ECONOMICS, AND SOCIOLOGY COURSES, AND ELECTIVES. WITHIN THE EXISTING FRAMEWORK, A PILOT EXPERIMENTAL PROJECT SUBMITTED TO THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH IS DESCRIBED. IT IS ORGANIZED ALONG THE LINES OF A GRADUATE PROGRAM. COURSE MATERIAL TIES IN SEQUENTIALLY, AS WELL AS IN CONTENT, WITH A GRADUATE PROGRAM. THE CURRICULUM OBJECTIVES FOR AN UNDERGRADUATE SOCIAL WELFARE-GRADUATE SOCIAL WORK CONTINUUM ARE PRESENTED, AS IS THE DESIGN FOR THE PILOT UNDERGRADUATE SOCIAL WELFARE PROGRAM. (SK)
