AN INTERIM SURVEY DESIGNED TO SUPPLY STATISTICAL DATA TO ANYONE INVOLVED IN PLANNING AND EVALUATING FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROGRAMS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IS PRESENTED IN THIS REPORT. FOREIGN LANGUAGE ENROLLMENTS BY PERCENT OF HIGH SCHOOL POPULATION, BY LANGUAGES, AND BY LANGUAGE LEVELS ARE TABULATED. FOREIGN LANGUAGE OFFERINGS ARE LISTED ACCORDING TO THE NUMBER OF SCHOOLS, THE VARIOUS LANGUAGES TAUGHT, AND THE LEVELS AT WHICH THEY ARE TAUGHT. OTHER INFORMATION RELATED TO FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROGRAMS INCLUDES DATA ON FREQUENCY OF INSTRUCTION, CLASS SIZE, REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION, EXTENT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE SEQUENCE, LANGUAGE LEVELS IN COMBINATION, LANGUAGE VARIETY AND FREQUENCY, AND LANGUAGE DISTRIBUTION IN SCHOOLS. REPORTS ARE INCLUDED ON THE NUMBER OF SCHOOLS FOLLOWING COURSE GUIDES, THOSE MAKING USE OF LANGUAGE LABORATORIES, THE DISTRIBUTION OF TEACHERS, AND THE NUMBER OF SCHOOLS WITH AVAILABLE CONSULTATIVE SERVICES.
