BEGINNING IN SOMALI. REVISED EDITION.
PIA, J.J.; AND OTHERS
THIS COURSE WAS DEVELOPED UNDER A PEACE CORPS CONTRACT TO PROVIDE INSTRUCTION IN SOMALI AT AN ELEMENTARY LEVEL. GRAMMATICAL COVERAGE IS SUFFICIENT TO PERMIT THE STUDENTS TO ACHIEVE S2, AS DEFINED IN THE ABSOLUTE LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY RATINGS OF THE FOREIGN SERVICE INSTITUTE. THE VOLUME IS A REVISION OF AN EARLIER COURSE. THE APPROACH USED IS THE "MICROWAVE FORMAT," IN WHICH THERE IS A SHORT ELAPSED TIME BETWEEN THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW GRAMMATICAL MATERIAL AND ITS USE IN CONVERSATION. BRIEF STATEMENTS ARE GIVEN OF THE PHONOLOGY OF SOMALI AND THE METHOD OF TRANSCRIPTION USED. (KL)
