A NATIONAL SURVEY WAS UNDERTAKEN TO PROVIDE DATA FOR THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THREE OBJECTIVES--(1) TO INVESTIGATE THE TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND MANIPULATIVE SKILLS OF AVIATION MECHANICS AS REQUIRED BY THE AVIATION INDUSTRY, (2) TO IDENTIFY A CORE CURRICULUM FOR THE TRAINING OF AVIATION MECHANICS, AND (3) TO IDENTIFY THE SCOPE OF TRAINING OFFERED BY INDUSTRY. THE SURVEY WAS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE ANSWERS TO FIVE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS--(1) NUMBER OF MEN PERFORMING EACH TASK SPECIFIED, (2) FREQUENCY OF PERFORMANCE, (3) LEVEL OF TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED TO PERFORM EACH TASK, (4) CONDITION UNDER WHICH EACH TASK IS PERFORMED, AND (5) DEPTH OF TRAINING CONDUCTED BY INDUSTRY. ADJACENT TO EACH OF 52 TABLES WHICH PRESENT THE SURVEY FINDINGS BY SPECIFIED TASKS IS (1) AN OVERVIEW OF WORK-TASK PERFORMED, (2) THE PRINCIPAL FINDINGS, AND (3) THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE.
