THIS STUDY WAS SET UP TO DETERMINE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING PROGRAMED MATERIAL IN SPELLING, DICTION, AND SENTENCE ARRANGEMENT AND PARAGRAPH COHERENCE FOR (1) IMPROVEMENT IN THE LANGUAGE HABITS OF THREE TYPES OF STUDENTS AT COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY AND (2) ECONOMY IN TIME AND PERSONNEL REQUIRED FOR INSTRUCTION OF THESE STUDENTS. ONE EXPERIMENTAL UNIT WAS CONSTRUCTED FOR THE AREA TO BE STUDIED. ALTHOUGH DEVELOPMENTAL OBJECTIVES WERE ATTAINED, IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT MOTIVATION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN METHOD. (LP)
