THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT TEACHERS AND HOW THEY VIEW THEIR WORK. FOCUS OF THE STUDY WAS ON--(1) TEACHERS OF DIFFERENT GRADE LEVELS IN ELEMENTARY, JUNIOR HIGH, AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS, (2) TEACHERS OF DIFFERENT DISTRICTS OR GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS, AND (3) TEACHERS DURING THEIR PRESERVICE TRAINING AND AFTER TEACHING EXPERIENCE. THE BASIC PROCEDURE WAS THE ADMINISTRATION OF ROLE DIMENSION PROFILE SCALE TO THE SELECTED GROUPS AND AN INTERVIEW WITH SOME 40 PER CENT OF THE SUBJECTS. ACCORDING TO A SCALE OF ROLES ADAPTED FOR THIS STUDY, TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS ALMOST COMPLETELY DISAGREE ON THE ROLE OF THE TEACHER. (LP)
